Timberline High School Band Staff 2015

Mr. José Rodríguez II - Director of Bands

Mr. Rodriguez is the Band Director at Timberline High School where he currently teaches Marching Band and Pep Band, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, AP Music Theory, Beginning Guitar, and Music Appreciation. Mr. Rodriguez has also served as adjunct faculty at Boise State University as a saxophone instructor, and has been actively involved in music in Idaho since 1998. Rodriguez earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Boise State University in 2006 and a Master of Education degree from the University of Idaho in 2015. Rodriguez was a member of the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps percussion section in 2005, then became a percussion instructor with the Cascades for the 2006 and 2009 seasons. While at Boise State, he performed with the University Symphonic Winds, (principal saxophone) the BSU Big Band, (lead alto sax) the BSU Blue Thunder Marching Band (drum line), and the Idaho All-Star Band at the 2004 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA.  He has had the opportunity to perform on concerts with well-known artists such as Dave Brubeck, Jeff Jarvis, Charles McPherson, Andy Martin and Little Richard. Recently, Mr. Rodriguez has performed with the Treasure Valley Concert Band and other side projects. In his "spare time" Mr. Rodriguez enjoys training in Shotokan Karate, composing music, lifetime sports, and travel.

Mr. Enríque Martínez - Assistant Director and Percussion Instructor

Mr. Martinez has been working with Timberline High School since 2008 and has served as the Director of Bands at East Jr. High School in Boise since 2009. Before coming to Timberline, Mr. Martinez worked as a percussion instructor with Capital High School while completing his college coursework. Mr. Martinez graduated with a B.M.E. in Music Education (percussion) from Boise State University in 2008. Mr. Martinez has also had the opportunity to preform with multiple performing groups, including Boise State's Symphonic Winds, (principal percussionist) the BSU "Big Band", The Boise Philharmonic, Opera Idaho, and the funk/reggae band, The Afrosonics. Mr. Martinez is also a seasoned drum corps  veteran, marching bass drum for The Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005 and 2006 and he was on staff as the bass drum instructor with the Cascades since from 2009 - 2013. In 2012, Mr. Martinez' bass drum section won the DCI Individual and Ensemble World Championship! In his spare time, Mr. Martinez is a strong supporter of Boise State Football and likes to say "Go Broncos!" as often as possible.

​Mrs. Amanda Flory - Assistant Director and Colorguard Instructor

Mrs. Flory is in her third year as the Director of Bands at Les Bois Jr. High. She also serves as Assistant Director, teaching the Color Guard, Winter Guard, and Marching Band at Timberline High School. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Central Arkansas, and a Master of Music Education from the University of Kentucky. While completing her bachelor degree, Mrs. Flory served as the captain of the color guard at UCA, and also taught at Frontlines: Color Guard, Majorette, and Drum Major Camp for three years. Additionally, Mrs. Flory was the guard instructor at Maumelle HS and Arkansas Baptist Repertory School. This is her second year as a member of the Timberline Marching Band staff.

​Mr. Bryan Johnson - Battery Percussion Instructor/Percussion Caption Head

Bryan has been teaching for nearly ten years in the Boise are in the field of marching percussion. Bryan was a member of the Seattle Cascades percussion section for both the 2009 and 2011 seasons. Bryan is currently in his 2nd year on the instructional staff for the Timberline High School Band program and works most closely with battery percussion.

Mr. ​​​Jared Pellegrino - Pit Instructor

Jared Pellegrino received a Bachelors in Music Composition form Boise State University.  Jared is a 2011 graduate of Timberline High School.  He has been heavily involved with the Timberline band program, serving as the section leader for the front ensemble for all three years of high school, along with leading and organizing an after-school Percussion Ensemble.  Jared has also been a member of the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps front ensemble in 2010 and 2013, and was the principal percussionist and timpanist for the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra during their 2010-2011 season.  Jared won the District III Solo/Ensemble Festival on both marimba and timpani in 2011 and received a Superior Rating for percussion ensemble in 2010 and 2011.

​Mr. Drew Flory - Woodwind Instructor

Drew Flory is a music educator and clarinetist in the Treasure Valley.  He has a Master of Music in Music Performance from Boise State University and a Bachelors of Music in Education and Performance from the University of Central Arkansas. Currently he teaches elementary music and choir at Maple Grove Elementary School in Boise. While at the University of Central Arkansas, he played in the Wind Ensemble and was the saxophone section leader in the Bear Marching Band. More recently at Boise State, he served as a teaching assistant in the clarinet studio and in music theory classes.  He also served as the Symphonic Winds graduate assistant, and in this capacity he organized the annual BSU High School Honor Band and Band Clinic.  In addition to playing in the Boise State Symphonic Winds and Boise State Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Flory has performed with the Serenata Symphony, the Meridian Symphony, the Magic Valley Symphony, and the Hymns of Thanksgiving Orchestra. While not teaching at Maple Grove or Timberline High School, he  teaches clarinet lessons at the Idaho Music Academy. He also is a member of the Treasure Valley Concert Band. On the rare occasion that he is not teaching or performing somewhere, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Amanda Flory, who teaches band at Les Bois Junior High, and their dog, Tilly.
