Timberline High School Marching Band Staff 2025

Mr. José Rodríguez - Timberline Band Director

Mr. Rodriguez has served as the Band Director at Timberline High School since 2008, and he currently teaches Marching Band and Pep Band, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Jazz Ensembles, AP Music Theory, and Music Production. Mr. Rodriguez has also served as adjunct faculty at Boise State University as a saxophone instructor, and has been actively involved in music in Idaho since 1998 as a performer, educator, adjudicator, guest clinician and music supporter. Rodriguez earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Boise State University in 2006 and a Master of Education degree from the University of Idaho in 2015. He was a member of the 2005 Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps and went on to teach the group in 2006 and 2009. In his "spare time" Mr. Rodriguez enjoys training in Shotokan Karate, composing music, lifetime sports, and travel.

VISUAL STAFF

​​Mr. Evan Chivers - Assistant Director, Visual and Brass Instructor/Caption Head

Mr. Chivers has been working in Idaho as a marching arts instructor, designer, and adjudicator for over a decade. In that time, he has worked with thousands of students from high schools and colleges across Idaho and neighboring states. He is the current visual caption head for the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. In the indoor activity, Evan acted as the visual designer and instructor for Rhythm Armada for 5 seasons. In the 2023 and 2024 drum corps seasons, Evan worked as a visual technician and choreographer for the Seattle Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps. In his time at THS, he has acted as visual caption head, drill writer/choreographer, program designer, and assistant director for some of the Wolf Pack Marching Band's most successful seasons. Outside of the marching arts world, Evan is a career music educator. Mr. Chivers has been the general music teacher at Desert Sage Elementary since 2018.

​Mr. Kyle Cleven - Visual Instructor, Designer

Mr. Cleven started his marching career in the Foothill High School Marching Band in Henderson, Nevada. He then went on to march Pacific Crest drum and bugle corps, and later aged out with the Blue Knights. He began teaching straight out of high school at Liberty High School and Silverado High School in Las Vegas. After moving to Boise he started teaching with Timberline High School in 2021. He now teaches with the World Class Drum and Bugle Corps, the Sacramento Mandarins as a part of their visual staff.

Mr. Justin Granados - Assistant Director, Music/Conducting Instructor

Mr. Granados received his degree in Music Education from Boise State University.  During his time at Boise State, he has served as Principal French Horn in the University’s Symphonic Winds and Symphony Orchestra.  He was also a member of the Blue Thunder Marching band for three seasons of which he served as Drum Major during the 2020-2021 season.  In addition, he has performed with the Boise Philharmonic, Opera Idaho, and Boise Baroque.  Outside of the marching arts, Mr. Grandos performs regularly with the Treasure Valley Concert Band, consults in high brass playing throughout the Treasure Valley, and teaches French Horn Privately.

​Mr. TJ Davis - Music/Audio Instructor

Mr. Davis is the current orchestra director at Les Bois Jr. High School. Mr. Davis earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Boise State University where he held leadership roles in the Blue Thunder Marching Band and Symphonic Winds, and he was a member of the Jazz Orchestra and Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. TJ is primarily a euphonium player, but has also privately studied tuba and music production. Since graduating, TJ has interned with a leading music technology company, Ableton, and has started teaching private low brass lessons and music production lessons.

​​Mr. Bryan Johnson - Percussion C0-Caption Head

Mr. Johnson has been teaching in the Boise area in the field of marching percussion since 2007. Bryan was a member of the Seattle Cascades percussion section for both the 2009 and 2011 seasons and has been teaching with the Timberline High School Band program since 2016. He is former percussion instructor at Mountain View High School, and was previously the director of percussion for Armada Corps.

​​Mr. Kendall Shew - Percussion Co-Caption Head

Kendall Shew is a percussionist, drummer, and educator with a deep-rooted passion for marching percussion and live performance. From his early days in high school drumline to performing across the country with the Idaho National Guard’s 25th Army Band - Kendall has dedicated his life to rhythm, both on and off the stage. A 2001 member of the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps, Kendall has spent years mentoring the next generation of drummers in the Treasure Valley. Since 1998, he has instructed several local high school percussion programs including Boise, Timberline, Capital, and Weiser, and has served as a guest clinician at Northwest Marching Academies. He continues to offer private lessons for students seeking to sharpen their skills and deepen their understanding of percussion. Beyond the marching field, Kendall is an accomplished drum set player, performing everything from punk rock to country with bands throughout the Pacific Northwest. Offstage, his love of rhythm extends into event logistics and music community advocacy—volunteering with the Boise Hive and helping organize live performances and promotional efforts that support emerging artists. Whether teaching, performing, or producing, Kendall brings energy, precision, and passion to every beat. When he is not immersing himself in music, he runs a marketing consulting group, Shewtonio Productions, where he gets to work with entertainment, media and a variety of local and national businesses!

​Mr. ​​ Jared Pellegrino - Percussion Instructor, Sound Engineering, Design

Mr.  Pellegrino received a Bachelors in Music Composition form Boise State University.  Jared is a 2011 graduate of Timberline High School.  He has been heavily involved with the Timberline band program, serving as the section leader for the front ensemble for all three years of high school, along with leading and organizing an after-school Percussion Ensemble.  Jared has also been a member of the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps front ensemble in 2010 and 2013, and was the principal percussionist and timpanist for the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra during their 2010-2011 season.  Jared won the District III Solo/Ensemble Festival on both marimba and timpani in 2011 and received a Superior Rating for percussion ensemble in 2010 and 2011.

Mr. Eric Woods - Percussion Technician

Eric Woods is a marching percussionist and drum set player. He has marched snare drum competitively at the WGI Independent Open class level with Rhythm Armada and IMPACT Percussion as well as WGI World Class also with IMPACT Percussion. He has marched for the Boise State Blue Thunder Marching Band as a snare drummer. He has been taught by many great instructors on his journey as a marcher and is very much look forward to working with Timberline Battery! 


​Guard Staff

​Ms. Cora Kruger - Color Guard Caption Head

Cora Kruger has been a color guard performer since 2018. She has spun on an Independent Open Class Winter Guard for multiple seasons with Armada Winter Guard, specializing in saber and flag. She also has marched for the Blue Thunder Marching Band as member of their color guard and rifle line. She works as head guard instructor for the Timberline Color Guard for both the fall and winter season. She also works as Co-Caption head for Armada Regional A during the winter guard season. Outside of the marching arts, Cora specializes in human biology and works in healthcare.

​Mr. Huy Vo - Color guard Technician

Huy Vo is a student at Boise State University studying Biology and Pre-Nursing. He has over 14 years of experience on trumpet, 9 years on horn, and five years in colorguard, specializing in rifle and dance. Huy has performed with Armada Winter Guard (A Class 2023, Open Class 2024) and the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps on both trumpet (2023) and colorguard (2024). He is passionate about mentoring students and helping them grow as performers and individuals. In his spare time, Huy enjoys going to the gym, cooking, and snacking on granola bars during long rehearsals.
